Garrett on non-Midwest American ethnicities: “They’ll say yes to you constantly and then you’ll realize they really didn’t mean it”

In Uncategorized on November 1, 2011 at 1:31 am

Congressman Scott Garrett was out in the rural part of the 5th District today and did his best to pander to the overwhelmingly White, Conservative population during his visit. After a local businessman declared that doing business with people in the American Midwest was easiest, because of their “straight-forward” attitde, Garrett chimed in with his philosophy on the honesty of ethnicities:

Other ethnicities are not that way. They’ll say yes to you constantly and then you’ll realize they really didn’t mean it.

Thanks for enlightening us Congressman. As bad a Congressman as you are, please don’t quit to become an Anthropologist.

Garrett’s staff jerks around his constitutents

I had the opportunity to attend a MoveOn event yesterday with one of my fellow Retire Garrett partners, Michael Simonson, where we (around 25-30 of us) were going to head to Garrett’s “new” Glen Rock office to discuss the upcoming stimulus bill and the importance of bringing jobs (especially green jobs) to the District.

MoveOn’s local organizer had contacted Garrett’s office, and was advised that at least one of his staff would be in the new Glen Rock office, which replaced the old one on Route 4 in Paramus. His staff was aware of our mission, and we were armed with signs, stories and pleas for Garrett to do the right thing for the district and help out his constituents.

After all, NJ gets less back from the Federal government than any other state relative to what our taxpayers send to the Feds, and the “budget hawk” line of crap is shot to hell when you realize that he voted for every single no-strings-attached dollar (and there were hundreds of billions of them) sent to the Iraq sinkhole.

Oh yeah, and we need jobs and infrastructure here too.

So, as you can see from the pics below, we were ready to talk to his office, but when we got there, it was locked and empty – as if they hadn’t even moved in yet. This, despite the fact that we said we were coming and were told that someone would be in that very closed and empty Glen Rock office.

Why is Garrett afraid of talking about more jobs for his district?

Now, I know that he will vote against this bill, as he would be proud to vote against women, children, puppies or most likely flowers and rainbows too, and that is why I think that finding (and funding) a candidate to take him down in 2010 (or if we are stuck with him after redistricting, 2012) – as the man just can’t be reasoned with.

He must go.

Now, enjoy some of the pics…..

This is the MoveOn organizer (whose name I am keeping anonymous because I don’t know if she wants it out there, so I am being cautious), sitting on the floor outside Garrett’s office on 2 cell phones – one with Garrett’s DC office and one with his NJ office.

Here we are outside of his office. Which, did I mention, was empty and dark and locked?

One of us outside and across the street

Two more of us, a retiree and a doctor with stories that are heartwrenching.

Scott Garrett’s sense of humor reminiscent of George W.’s

In Uncategorized on December 5, 2008 at 1:26 am

Scott Garrett recently penned an op-ed in the New Jersey Herald that “hilariously” compared Congress’s attempt at revitalizing the economy to Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky movies. This inappropriate stab at humor reminded me of our current lame duck President*. First Garrett’s “Rocky” quote:

“Congress is currently discussing a “Stimulus II” package, to potentially be voted on next week. The word “stimulus” is really a misnomer, used to shore up public support for yet another bailout. In reality, it’s “Spending II: Bailout Returns.” It’s unclear as to whether Nancy Pelosi will be fighting Apollo Creed in this bailout sequel, but by the end of the 110th Congress, there will be more chapters in the bailout saga than there are Rocky movies.”

And the man Garrett resembles when he tries to crack wise about our country falling apart (go to the 1:15 marker for an explanation of the economic crisis I’m sure Garrett would agree with):

*Unfortunately the original video of Will Ferrell hilariously and accurately impersonating President Bush was removed by YouTube. Instead I have provided a clip of the President succinctly explaining the Conservative strategy for improving the economy.

Is This Really Our Representative?

*Thanks to Dennis Shulman’s campaign for Congress for providing this

As of the end of 2006, the American Conservative Union had only given a “perfect” score of 100 to two members of Congress for their lifetime voting record.

Scott Garrett was one of them.

Scott Garrett has been a consistent supporter of George Bush’s war in Iraq.

Scott Garrett voted for drilling off the New Jersey shore, and in the federally protected areas in Alaska.*

Scott Garrett voted against the reauthorization of the Voting Rights Act which ensures that access to voting would not be denied based on race.*

Scott Garrett voted against requiring that HMOs pay for mammographies.*

Scott Garrett voted against providing health insurance to poor children (SCHIP).

Scott Garrett voted against the federal funding of stem cell research.

Scott Garrett voted for every one of the bloated Bush budgets. Read the rest of this entry »
