PolitickerNJ, take it away:
Theise seeks Dem nod to challenge Garrett
By Matt Friedman | March 12th, 2010 – 9:57am
Tod Theise Tod Theise, a Republican-turned-Democrat who ran for Warren County freeholder last year, has decided to challenge U.S. Rep. Scott Garrett (R-Wantage).
“I view politics as a calling that demands public servants act as just that – servants of the people. Far too many elected officials sell their souls to special interests in return for the money that fuels their political careers,” said Theise in a written statement.
Theise lives in Washington Township and works as a litigation analyst at Sullivan & Cromwell LLP. He is a former West Orange Republican chairman and aide to former Essex County Executive James Treffinger. He was the GOP candidate for State Assembly in 2003, losing to incumbents John McKeon (D-West Orange) and Mims Hackett (D-Orange).
Theise has already won the support of the Warren County Democratic Party and expects to receive the endorsement of the Sussex Democrats, but he did not compete for the support of the Bergen County Democratic Organization, where most of the district’s population – and even more of its Democratic vote – resides (Bergen Democrats did not pick a candidate for Congress against Garrett at their convention last week). He does plan to court Bergen County Democratic grassroops groups.
In an email message to PolitickerNJ.com, Theise acknowledged that taking on Garrett was a long shot.
“But he needs an intervention of sorts,” he wrote. “Voting against the goals and accomplishments of the National School Lunch Program (one of 13 Congressmen to do so) is nothing short of a twisted cry for help. Even Michelle Bachman and Eric Cantor voted to give props to the NSLP.”
The Record and the Express-Times have more on Theise’s announcement.

Tod Theise, is in fact an excellant candidate- he reflects a tireless, fighting spirit to bring change to things that reflect no change- it took this man- Todd Theise” when he ran for freeholder to shake up the republicans- and address issues which affected a multitude…as Warren County remembers the library project…if it wasn’t for this man that project would not have gotten another look and halted…I beleieve if Todd had more help in his campaign he would have been at best A FREEHOLDER today—However, he has not shut-down or walked away from pursuing change…he is going after the root of all that is not just. An excellant leader and representative for the people- I can only talk about what I have observed from this candidate…he put signs…he took down signs…he manned the phones…he walked the neighborhoods…he talked to the people…and he addressed issues of concern- he invested long hours in a campaign which lacked more teamplayers amongst the Democratic Party. His intense dedication and unrelenting drive place him a cut above. This so called long shot is as close as those around him support him. Just the other day he was awarded an honor for his military service-till present- serving his country as a whole and in pursuit of victory against a cancer…which continue’s to make off the wall decisions and not rely on what is in the best interest of the people…if he is to de-throne, Garrett he needs all of our support ! Let us do the research and move forward with this candidate to his victory !!!
So where do I sign up to support Mr. Theise? How can I help? Time? Money? What? I’d sell my soul to get rid of Garrett.
Scott Garrett simply must be defeated!
Jean and Danny — I’m glad to see others are posting to this site. Do either of you know where/how to get more info? Am I missing some critical bit of contact info here?? (Yes, I’m that dumb.) If anyone knows where/how to reach Tod or the organization I expect he’s trying to build in support of his candidacy — please let me know. Thanks.
